2012 PRESS RELEASE

Right after I completed school my wife and I moved to Chicago. I didn’t have much free time, equipment, or money to do many projects of ambition. Therefore this became the first of many explorations into reductive filmmaking and experimenting with story structure. We really didn’t know what we were doing, but it was a great scrappy first project that walked us through all sorts of production phases. Admittedly, the writing could be better and our voice over recording process was buggy…but for a Nikon D5100, a few lights from Lowes, and some vintage photography lenses…we still made something.

With a complete nine episode run we all learned a lot and laid the foundations for far more ambitious projects. And in 2013 The Mechanicals was briefly picked up for after hours re-broadcast on SkyTV in the UK as a part of an “online sketches” late night review program.

We had a couple really clever moments and learned a ton about what we could and what we couldn’t get away with. Not necessarily a great show, but it was a great practice exercise!
